So what is Hey Clay! …..

As the Great Pottery Throw Down hits our screens, the Crafts Council launches Hey Clay! To offer people free opportunities to get creative across the UK.

Hey Clay! Is part of BBC’s Get Creative Campaign and runs from Friday 4 – Sunday 6 December 2015. The weekend is a celebration of everything clay, giving everyone the chance to have some fun and unleash their inner potter!

The Great Pottery Throw Down judges Keith Brymer-Jones and Kate Malone are just some of the talented potters opening their studios and running workshops for Hey Clay!  From Newcastle to Cornwall – over 50 studios, workshops, museums, galleries and colleges will be hosting free events where you can roll up your sleeves and try your hand at pottery including makers offering an introduction to throwing on a wheel, drop in sessions for children, and taster sessions at colleges.

Some of our Hey Clay! Activities include The Leach Pottery in St Ives creating a community of clay people who will wave up the country to Northlight Art Studios in Hebden Bridge via Skype. The Kiln Rooms in Peckham, who were recently on the One Show, will be making and decorating tiles with The London Clay Club that will then be installed at a new community garden project in Elephant and Castle. The Grimsby School of Art will be running a ceramic and jewellery making workshop.
